Address of the retiring Mayor Minutes: Councillor Mrs M Stockwood, Mayor of Rushcliffe for 2018/19, thanked councillors for electing her twelve months ago to be Mayor of Rushcliffe for a second time. She outlined the highlights of her mayoral year including Christmas Dinner at the Friary Drop-In Centre, the Civic Dinner at the Nottinghamshire County Cricket Club, the numerous events she attended as part of the WW1 centenary, and the opening of Stanford Park in the presence of Prince William, the Duke of Westminster and the Prime Minister.
Councillor Mrs M Stockwood thanked her consort, Councillor Purdue-Horan, for his support during her busy year, her fellow councillors for their contributions towards her charity, the Nottinghamshire Hospice – raising over £8,000 in the last year, and officers within the Democratic Services team for managing her engagements and supporting at events. She also thanked Canon Haydock, who was unable to be present at the meeting, and her Cadet, Luke Witham, who was presented with a plaque.

Vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor Minutes: Councillor Robinson proposed a vote of thanks to the retiring Mayor and noted that as the First Citizen of the Borough that the Mayor had attended 118 events over the course of her mayoral year.
As well as those events mentioned by Councillor Mrs M Stockwood, the Leader recollected the start of the seventh stage of the Tour of Britain last September which the Council hosted in West Bridgford where the Mayor was resplendent in a well-chosen yellow outfit, and the excellent annual Proms in the Park event.
Councillor Gray, on behalf of the Labour Group, supported the remarks of the previous speaker and congratulated Councillor Mrs M Stockwood on a very busy and successful year bursting with civic engagements, voluntary and charity events, school visits, centenary events, and the ever popular Christmas lights switch-on in West Bridgford. He also mentioned that he had been reliably informed that the Mayor had always conducted Council meetings in an appropriate, firm but fair, manner.
Councillor Jones particularly thanked the Mayor for her support of the Nottinghamshire Hospice over the course of the year. Councillor S Mallender mentioned that it did not seem so long ago that she was thanking Councillor Mrs M Stockwood for her dedication during her first year in office at the end of 2006. She thanked her again for her support of important events in the Borough and the Nottinghamshire Hospice and hoped that Councillor Mrs M Stockwood enjoyed a well-earned rest. Councillor Thomas thanked the retiring Mayor for everything she had done for the Borough during her year of office.

Election of Mayor 2019/20 To consider nominations for the appointment of Mayor of the Borough of Rushcliffe for the 2019/20 Civic year.
After the vote on the election of Mayor has been carried, the new Mayor, upon making the declaration of acceptance of office, will take the Chair for the remainder of the meeting. Minutes: It was proposed by Councillor Butler, seconded by Councillor Upton and RESOLVED that Councillor Mrs Christine Jeffreys be elected as Mayor of the Borough of Rushcliffe for the civic year 2019/20.
Councillor Mrs Jeffreys then read and signed the declaration of acceptance of office and after thanking her proposer, seconder and fellow councillors, took the Chair and was invested with the Chain of Office by the retiring Mayor.
The Mayor announced that her chosen charities this year were the Lincs and Notts Air Ambulance and Headway Nottingham.

Election of Deputy Mayor 2019/20 Minutes: It was proposed by Councillor R Mallender, seconded by Councillor S Robinson and RESOLVED that Councillor Sue Mallender be elected as Deputy Mayor of the Borough of Rushcliffe for the civic year 2019/20.
Councillor S Mallender then read and signed the declaration of acceptance of office and after thanking her proposer, seconder and fellow councillors, was invested with her Chain of Office by the Mayor.

Appointment of Leader of the Council 2019 - 2023 To appoint the Leader of the Council for 2019 – 2023. Minutes: Councillor D Mason proposed Cllr S Robinson as Leader of the Council for 2019-2023 and this nomination was seconded by Councillor A Edyvean.
The Leader advised that his Cabinet appointments for the municipal year 2019/20 would be as follows:

Leader's Announcements Minutes: The Leader of the Council welcomed 18 new councillors elected at the beginning of the month and thanked the special guests in attendance. He drew Council’s attention to the fact that after 60 full Council meetings this was to be the Chief Executive’s last meeting. Councillor Robinson outlined Mr Graham’s many skills both within and outside of work, his aspiration to make Rushcliffe a great place to live and work, the national awards that the Council had won with Mr Graham at the helm, and the legacy that Mr Graham has left behind, particularly noting the Rushcliffe Arena. The Leader invited the Mayor to present Mr Graham with a gift on behalf of the Council.
Mr Graham thanked the Mayor for his gift and the Leader for his kind words.

It was RESOLVED that schedule of meetings for the municipal year 2019/20, as attached at Appendix A of the officer’s report, be approved.
